Neki kažu svet će nestati u vatri,
Neki kažu u ledu.
Koliko svoje poznajem želje
Svrstao bih se među one što vatru žele.
Ali ako dvaput treba, da nas snađe propasti beda,
A mislim da mržnju dobro znam
Rekao bih da je destrukcija pomoću leda
Način odličan,
I bilo bi ga dovoljno, izgleda.

Fire and Ice
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

DIZAJN

Naiđoh na debelog i belog pauka,
Drži moljca na belom svelek cvetu svom
Kao parče satena na kolenu krutom –
Poređao je muke i smrt svih oblika,
Da dan počne kako treba vrti ih ko torbu
Ko sastojke u kotliću za veštičju čorbu,
Paukovu snežnu kap i cveće poput pene –
Mrtvo krilo koje visi ko od zmaja sene.

Šta da radi cveće sa svojim belinama,
Kraj puta nevino i plavo – svelek za bolesti?
Zašto pauk plaši moljca svojim visinama,
Vrteći ga tamo-amo u tamnim noćima?
Zašto smo dizajnom noći tako užasnuti?
Kad i sitnim stvarima vlada dizajn isti.

DESIGN

I found a dimpled spider, fat and white,
On a white heal-all, holding up a moth
Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth —
Assorted characters of death and blight
Mixed ready to begin the morning right,
Like the ingredients of a witches’ broth —
A snow-drop spider, a flower like a froth,
And dead wings carried like a paper kite.

What had that flower to do with being white,
The wayside blue and innocent heal-all?
What brought the kindred spider to that height,
Then steered the white moth thither in the night?
What but design of darkness to appall?–
If design govern in a thing so small.
